Ungoogled Chromium
A lightweight approach to removing Google web service dependency
In descending order of significance (i.e. most important objective first), ungoogled-chromium is Google Chromium, sans dependency on Google web services, ungoogled-chromium retains the default Chromium experience as closely as possible. Unlike other Chromium forks that have their own visions of a web browser, ungoogled-chromium is essentially a drop-in replacement for Chromium. ungoogled-chromium features tweaks to enhance privacy, control, and transparency. However, almost all of these features must be manually activated or enabled. In scenarios where the objectives conflict, the objective of higher significance should take precedence. Disable functionality specific to Google domains (e.g. Google Host Detector, Google URL Tracker, Google Cloud Messaging, Google Hotwording, etc.). This includes disabling Safe Browsing. Consult the FAQ for the rationale. -

Node.js native addon build tool
node-gyp is a cross-platform command-line tool written in Node.js for compiling native addon modules for Node.js. It contains a vendored copy of the gyp-next project that was previously used by the Chromium team, extended to support the development of Node.js native addons. Note that node-gyp is not used to build Node.js itself. Multiple target versions of Node.js are supported (i.e. 0.8, ..., 4, 5, 6, etc.), regardless of what version of Node.js is actually installed on your system (node-gyp downloads the necessary development files or headers for the target version). node-gyp requires that you have installed a compatible version of Python, one of: v3.6, v3.7, v3.8, or v3.9. If you have multiple Python versions installed, you can identify which Python version node-gyp should use. A binding.gyp file describes the configuration to build your module, in a JSON-like format. This file gets placed in the root of your package, alongside package.json. -

Extensions are optional, and can be combined in various ways with the base hosts file. The combined products are stored in the alternates folder. Data for extensions are stored in the extensions folder. You manage extensions by curating this folder tree, where you will find the data for fakenews, social, gambling, and porn extension data that we maintain and provide for you. Create an optional blacklist file. The contents of this file (containing a listing of additional domains in hosts file format) are appended to the unified hosts file during the update process. A sample blacklist is included, and may be modified as you need. -

OpenWPM
A web privacy measurement framework
OpenWPM is a web privacy measurement framework that makes it easy to collect data for privacy studies on a scale of thousands to millions of websites. OpenWPM is built on top of Firefox, with automation provided by Selenium. It includes several hooks for data collection. Check out the instrumentation section below for more details. OpenWPM is tested on Ubuntu 18.04 via TravisCI and is commonly used via the docker container that this repo builds, which is also based on Ubuntu. Although we don't officially support other platforms, conda is a cross-platform utility and the install script can be expected to work on OSX and other Linux distributions. OpenWPM does not support windows. The main pre-requisite for OpenWPM is conda, a cross-platform package management tool. -

Linkedin Scraper is a library that scrapes Linkedin for user data. Version 2.0.0 and before is called linkedin_user_scraper and can be installed via pip3 install --user linkedin_user_scraper. The reason is that LinkedIn has recently blocked people from viewing certain profiles without having previously signed in. So by setting scrape=False, it doesn't automatically scrape the profile, but Chrome will open the linkedin page anyways. You can login and logout, and the cookie will stay in the browser and it won't affect your profile views. Then when you run person.scrape(), it'll scrape and close the browser. A driver using Chrome is created by default. However, if a driver is passed in, that will be used instead. -

Flashlight is an open platform for Spotlight, which allows developers to write plugins that extend OS X's built-in search with new features. Flashlight is an unofficial Spotlight API that allows you to programmatically process queries and add additional results. It's very rough right now, and a horrendous hack, but a fun proof of concept. Once you're finished with a plugin, clone our repo, place your bundle in PluginDirectories/1, and we'll upload it to the online directory. Flashlight.app is currently translated into English, German, Spanish, Dutch, Chinese, French, Portuguese, Japanese, Italian, Turkish, Korean and Russian. Flashlight is translated via the usual OS X app localization methods. -

Scraped items gets pushed into a redis queued meaning that you can start as many as needed post-processing processes sharing the items queue. Scheduler + Duplication Filter, Item Pipeline, Base Spiders. Default requests serializer is pickle, but it can be changed to any module with loads and dumps functions. Note that pickle is not compatible between python versions. Version 0.3 changed the requests serialization from marshal to cPickle, therefore persisted requests using version 0.2 will not able to work on 0.3. The class scrapy_redis.spiders.RedisSpider enables a spider to read the urls from redis. The urls in the redis queue will be processed one after another, if the first request yields more requests, the spider will process those requests before fetching another url from redis. -

Google from the terminal
googler is a power tool to Google (web, news, videos and site search) from the command line. It shows the title, URL and abstract for each result, which can be directly opened in a browser from the terminal. Results are fetched in pages (with page navigation). Supports sequential searches in a single googler instance. googler was initially written to cater to headless servers without X. You can integrate it with a text-based browser. However, it has grown into a very handy and flexible utility that delivers much more. For example, fetch any number of results or start anywhere, limit the search by any duration, define aliases to google search any number of websites, and switch domains easily, all of this in a very clean interface without ads or stray URLs. The shell completion scripts make sure you don't need to remember any options. -

The Amazon Braket PennyLane plugin offers two Amazon Braket quantum devices to work with PennyLane. The Amazon Braket Python SDK is an open-source library that provides a framework to interact with quantum computing hardware devices and simulators through Amazon Braket. PennyLane is a machine learning library for optimization and automatic differentiation of hybrid quantum-classical computations. Once the Pennylane-Braket plugin is installed, the provided Braket devices can be accessed straight away in PennyLane, without the need to import any additional packages. While the local device helps with small-scale simulations and rapid prototyping, the remote device allows you to run larger simulations or access quantum hardware via the Amazon Braket service.
