This library is the first step of a journey that every markup file in a repository goes on before it is rendered on GitHub.com. GitHub-markup selects an underlying library to convert the raw markup to HTML. See the list of supported markup formats provided. The HTML is sanitized, aggressively removing things that could harm you and your kin—such as script tags, inline-styles, and class or id attributes. Syntax highlighting is performed on code blocks. See github/linguist for more information about syntax highlighting. The HTML is passed through other filters that add special sauce, such as emoji, task lists, named anchors, CDN caching for images, and autolinking. The resulting HTML is rendered on GitHub.com. The dependencies listed are required if you wish to run the library. You can also run script/bootstrap to fetch them all.

Backup is a system utility for Linux and Mac OS X, distributed as a RubyGem, that allows you to easily perform backup operations. It provides an elegant DSL in Ruby for modeling your backups. Backup has built-in support for various databases, storage protocols/services, syncers, compressors, encryptors and notifiers which you can mix and match. It was built with modularity, extensibility and simplicity in mind.

Paperclip is intended as an easy file attachment library for ActiveRecord. The intent behind it was to keep setup as easy as possible and to treat files as much like other attributes as possible. This means they aren't saved to their final locations on disk, nor are they deleted if set to nil, until ActiveRecord::Base#save is called. It manages validations based on size and presence, if required. It can transform its assigned image into thumbnails if needed, and the prerequisites are as simple as installing ImageMagick (which, for most modern Unix-based systems, is as easy as installing the right packages). Attached files are saved to the filesystem and referenced in the browser by an easily understandable specification, which has sensible and useful defaults. Paperclip will wrap up to four attributes (all prefixed with that attachment's name, so you can have multiple attachments per model if you wish) and give them a friendly front end.

smarbs is a simple backup script written in ruby. Using rsync it creates full snapshots in certain intervals within a minimal use of space. smarbs is easy configurable via config files and can be run as a cronjob.
