Hello Friedrich, I completely agree. We're not there where we want to be. But WHAT is it we want ????? --> We should create a roadmap or something that drives us to a stage where we can say okay: now the point has come to write to ct,ix and other magazines. In my eyes devil-linux is "just a distribution", but a special one ;-) in other words: it is the basis for a lot of other tools ! You can run a bgp-router with zebra or a nameserver with named and so on. As one can see there are various possible applications. We have to add a lot of packages (is smoothwall a package ??? *smile) in order to allow a whole bunch of applications. For example a set-permissions-script as we know it from suse would be great. to be continued.... Have a nice sunday and bye. -----Ursprungliche Nachricht----- Von: dev...@li... Hi, I'm really impressed by the statistics https://sourceforge.net/project/stats/index.php?report=months&group_id=34096 Correct me if I'm wrong, but we have no real competitor right now, or? I'm also suprised, because currently we have a lot of downloads of the very old 0.44 release. Do you have any suggestions to make Devil-Linux even more well-known? I'm not sure, if we're ready do write something to Linux Magazines. When I think what the C'T Magazine wrote about Smoothwall, I'm scared the same can happen to us. cu Heiko |

Shouldn't we set it to the safer behaviour of ddns-update-style none; so at least people get it running right away. If you take an old config and don't know about the command ddns-update-style you're lost for some time till you stumble over it somewhere, like I did once. I suggest using this as a starting config (simple_dhcpd.conf): ##---CUT---## # a minimal /etc/dhcpd.conf example # this statement is needed by dhcpd-3 # it needs at least this statement. ## REMOVE the '#' from the following line, otherwise it wont start #ddns-update-style none; # this subnet is served by us authoritative; # declare the lease times (the time after which a client will renew its lease) default-lease-time 600; # 10 minutes max-lease-time 7200; # 2 hours # let's give the local domain a name # (which should correlate to your name server configuration) option domain-name "beer"; # this assumes that your dhcp server is also the router for the subnet option routers 192.168.0.1; # clients shall use this host as nameserver, too option domain-name-servers 192.168.0.1; # this can explicitely be specified option broadcast-address 192.168.0.255; # these 10 addresses will be given out dynamically subnet 192.168.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 { range 192.168.0.11 192.168.0.20; # options may also be put here if they are not global } # this host is known by its hardware address and # we want a fixed address for it host murauer { hardware ethernet 00:30:65:6F:A5:D4; fixed-address 192.168.0.5; } ##---CUT---## -- MfG / Regards Friedrich Lobenstock |
