I added tg3 module to branch 1.2 some time ago ( May, 17 if to be more precise).
In accordance of the CHANGES file the module should be part of DL since 1.2.14.
I hope tg3 module is up-to-date and is able to work but I have no appropriate
hardware to check it.

May I ask you to check if tg3 module is working in the system built from cvs?
I can build DL 1.2.14 (full or custom iso) for you and put it on my ftp server
if it's necessary.

Hi John,

I had the same problems with the tg3 module on my new Primergy-Servers. =
They also have two onboard ports using Broadcom BCM5715 NICs.
Also the tg3 modules seems to be up to date they failed to load.

I've then started to use DL 1.3.4 (you have to build it on your own and =
maybe some packages could not yet get compiled) since the tg3-support in =
kernel 2.6.xxx does the job.=20

DL 1.3.4 is not yet far enough to be released in a "stable manner" but =
you should give it a try.
As I managed to build the packages I need I put this in production now =
for 2 weeks without any issues.

Hi,

Here is a patch to add newsyslog to DL. Newsyslog is a tool which
rotates logs based on the size to avoid having them grow too much. This
is useful for diskless firewalls.

There is a patch to add the build scripts and a second patch to get
newsyslog 1.1 to compile (The patch is a little large because I had to
modify Makefile.am as it was trying to build html versions of the
manpages and failing. Modifying Makefile.am meant to regenerate
Makefile.in and aclocal.m4.)

Is there a reason why scripts/config/config_net-tools.h has

#define HAVE_AFINET6 0

instead of 1 or is it simply an oversight?

I had no trouble compiling it that way and it works well (I need ipv6
support in route to add a default IPV6 route when my ppp0 is established,
I couldn't do it with iproute2).

On Intel platforms it is implemented in the chipset and to my knowledge,
only very early i801 chipsets did have one. This is really too bad.

At work I have some Xeon servers which are starved for entropy as nobody
is typing on the console (and I don't hire monkeys).

Hey,

I don't like having the basic DL functionality dependent on patches which
are not in the mainstream kernel (we had problems with this in the past).
That's why I don't like the idea of using it for initrd or cd-rom
compression (already gzipped anyway).
But I like the idea to offer it for additional functionality.

I was able to build version .11 but not to run.
Seems as if my hardware (Pentium D) does not support hw_random. :-(

SquashFS.

I've made it fully configureable (Kernel-Patch for squashfs and lzma, =
building patched kernel-modules, building patched squashfs-tools) so one =
could fully ignore it and nothing is changed to the current =
build-process.

Hello,

I was very interested to discover devil-linux 1.3 and its 2.6 kernel
support.

I want to use it with a VIA mini-itx board but noticed the rng-tools
package to feed entropy to the kernel random pool was missing so I
created the needed scripts to add it.

I used the rng-tools source package from Debian unstable.

What is the preferred way to make it available for inclusion if you
agree with it ?

I have no problem removing it.

Maybe just disable it in the standard configs so it's not included in
the releases?  That would make it easy to add it back someday if it ever
gets fixed/maintained again.

I've tested it again with version 1.03 but it does not find the =

I'm not sure it's being maintained any longer since the last update was =
over two years ago.

Maybe we should try version 1.03 to see if that fixes the problem?
Otherwise I agree, if it doesn't work we might as well nuke it.

I came accross the package cutter today while doing some custom-builds.

this thing could be used to cut ip-connections and is "always on" in the =
build-process so I also found it on my current production systems.
It seems as if this thing is not working anymore, cause all connections =

Yes indeed, somewhere on the mailinglists of syslinux I found a message 
from the syslinux developers that they didn't think that the pie option 
would be used to compile there stuff, so they didn't take this into 
account. At least that is what I remember from it. Have to look it up 
again to be sure.
Anyway, disabling the hardened compile options completly fixed it for me.

I know that it is a tough job. But the problem is that the old ifconfig 
commands are not capable of all the things that iproute2 can do for you.
And especially for 2.6 kernels, iproute2 is much better. I will see if I 
can start creating something, but it will take some time before it is a 
complete set.
For now I have fwbuilder scripts and they work very well for me.
