I booted into the Redhat 7.2 install CD, and got all the way to the partitioning screen in text mode, and none of the messages that came up had anything to do with my NICs. IIRC, Kudzu runs after the reboot after your install finishes. Are you suggesting that I install Redhat on this computer to see what the NICs are? I could possibly do that, but I'd think there would be an easier way. Chad |

I'm trying to get a new installation of DL running, and everything
seems to boot fine, but I'm using a couple of NICs that use modules
that aren't included on the CD. Is there any way to fix this?
The NICs I'm using are:
Linksys Ether16 ISA LAN Card (non-PnP)
IRQ 10, I/O 300
Uses ne2000.o
Netgear FA311 PCI LAN Card
Uses rtl8139.o
In a related question, how will I know which one of these will be eth0
and which will be eth1? I set the Linksys to eth0 in the ifcfg files,
but I don't know if that will do it.

You would have to modify the file linuxrc (in the build system: build/config/etc/initrd/linuxrc ) within the InitRD. Devil-linux kernel parameter CONFIG_INET_ECN=y is being set based on what I could see in the cvs tree. This is fine, however some sites have problems due to broken firewalls that don't implement TCP_ECN correctly. Theirs not ours / yours. Other distros by default usually don't set this kernel parameter to fix this problem. I noticed I had trouble accessing both www.fox.com and www.efax.com until I turned it off via "echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_ecn". At first I thought it was a squid issue but verified the same problem with or without squid configured. I am using fwbuilder so I could simply turn off TCP ECN on the firewall network properties tab (TCP Parameters) to permanently fix this. This maybe better suited to be turned off by default in the kernel and enabled only for sites that plan on using it. Who knows when all the sites out there will upgrade their firewalls with newer versions supporting ECN correctly. Some background info: ---------------------------- http://www.squid-cache.org/Doc/FAQ/FAQ-14.html#ss14.5 Look for "Can't connect to some sites through Squid" http://www.aplawrence.com/Linux/ecn.html http://answerpointe.cctec.com/maillists/nanog/historical/0104/msg00753.html Thanks, Matt Axsom TechAssay, Inc. |

yes, it's included in DL... you only need the ip command and one of the = > 2.4.13 kernels: if the kernel configuration has the following enabled (think so, maybe = heiko could answer) CONFIG_IP_ADVANCED_ROUTER=3DY CONFIG_IP_MULTIPLE_TABLES=3DY CONFIG_IP_ROUTE_MULTIPATH=3DY need to use ip and tc commands in iproute to setup source routing ip rule add from x.x.x.x lookup 1 ip rule add 192.168.1.0/24 via 192.168.1.1 table 1 ip route add 0/0 via x.x.x.1 table 1 ip rule add from y.y.y.y lookup 2 ip rule add 192.168.1.0/24 via 192.168.1.1 table 2 ip route add 0/0 via x.x.x.1 table 2 and you can load balance on the output by ip route add default equalize nexthop via x.x.x.x dev eth1 nexthop via y.y.y.y dev eth2 There's more afterwards on checking the setup and configuring services, start-up scripts, for doing ha. this configuration will detect a dead = link by marking it 'dead' and will recover after some traffic has gone = through the internface (ping icmp).=20 Original post by: -=3DFrancois=3D- fm...@fm... Hi, I think this should be possible by playing aroung with the routing tabl= e and the metric value. But this would work only for outgoing connections, because your IP addr= ess could change.
