Great software. Very easy to use

I've used this before, and it works great!! @OpenID User (post 4-7-2012): If you can't figure out how to use an ISO file, or don't know that you have to have appropriate software to make it usable when burned to a disc, then don't download the product. Don't write negative reviews just because you don't understand.

Boot and Nuke is very user friendly!!! (@OpenID User) Ok, all you do is literally download, use a program to burn it to a disk, and boot from the disk, and use it. It is impossible for the program to boot itself... Just because you couldnt spent 5 minutes to look up how something works doesnt mean that the program is bad.

I've tried to get this to work and nothing! It is NOT user friendly ... simply telling us to copy the file to a disk and boot from it is very misleading. No where is it mentioned that you have to use a third party software to boot from the disk. Then I get a message "Missing Operating System". Of all the questions asked about this on the help forum not one is answered ... Computer to closet and sit unused becuase I cannot get it wiped so I can donate it ....

If you need to wipe a disk, this tool is for you

I have used all other versions of this and never had a problem. I have wiped hundreds of hard-drives using DBAN. I would highly recommend this to anyone that knew how to use software like this.

I tried every which way to get this software to work, with no success. I intended on wiping my Windows Vista operating system laptop so I could sell it on eBay and get a couple extra bucks. After dealing with this bulls*** program for a few hours, I opted instead to go into my toolbox and grab a hammer. I went "Office Space" style on my computer and smashed it into f***ing pieces. Although I got many laughs with each swing of my crude tool of destruction, I still have to give Darik a giant "f*** you" for creating this program that only works if you have a masters degree in computer science and way too much time on your hands.

@Richard, about 28years ago a few guys tried telling a few other guys about something called a PC,i'll be your on one of thosee things yes? a PC? with Windoz. in 2011,if you don't know what,how,how to use a piece of software, i recommend going to a large Over Marketed Super Software Company in Redmond Wa, and get a Job,they want your knowledge,they know how to SELL it. for anyone else that is looking for exactly what this tool is designed for, it works perfectly and is still one of 10 of the best in the world, and guess what You don't have to pay the Bloated Inflated COMMERICALIZED marketing for a few other companies, that say theres is better,when almost nothing is better than this. and those companies havent even tried this. one Newbie fyi. if you have a Wind0z PC,and you have a 7-9 cf/sd/xd combo Flash Readers,disconnect it at the USB controller before trying to use this. At DOD/DOJ Standards, correctly setting this software works like a charm. mr PC,probably didn't get AutoStart and gave up. 99% of the controllers in the wild work, including most USB drive controllers.,but this and a few previous ones don't like the USB controller for the sd/flash sticks,because there controllers are knockoff chino,garbage,and there are about 1000different versions of it in the wild. this tool IS A BEST AT WHAT IT DOES. don't knock it if you cant FIGURE IT OUT.

I don't like to look a gift horse in the mouth, but it appears this project is dead. I had a boot CD that froze on the ISOLINUX 4.0 page, then found an obscure link to the "fixed" version. That version booted fine, but when I went to wipe it terminated with "non-fatal errors". Not sure what that means, but the many similar questions on the help forum for this project appear unanswered. In fact, every thread I opened had exactly one post: the request for help for some error or other. There were no subsequent posts with any answers. Once again, I like and appreciate free and open source software, but if it doesn't work, maybe it's time to take it down.

Have used this reliably for several years. The only time I have seen it fail is when you have bad hardware. If the disk or controller is failing, dban may fail.

What a fantastic and simply must have tool for the home user and professional alike. I work for a NFP agency who recycle and redistribute computers donated by business to the community. It is without doubt that if we didn't have DBAN a vast majority of these still usable systems/useable components would be destroyed and otherwise end up in landfill. Big Kudos to all involved in the DBAN/Sourceforge project!

Newer version does not appear to work as well with some older PC's. I use 1.0.7 on older machines and the new version on newer ones. Excellent bit of software - a must have for any IT Professional disposing of / recycling old machines.

This does not work at all. A total waste of a CD-R disk.

Another tool that is a, gotta have tool. If you need to really wipe a HDD, this tool is for you. Thanks!

This software cleans out the trash when nothing else will. It is extremely reliable and very easy to use. 'Nuff said?
