Ptolemy is an extension of Java whose goal are to enable separation of crosscutting concerns, while retaining our ability to understand separated concerns modularly. It balances modularity and expressiveness for aspect-oriented software development.

Features

Enables modularization of crosscutting concerns, while preserving encapsulation of object-oriented code,
enables well-defined interfaces between object-oriented code and crosscutting code, and
enables separate type-checking, separate compilation, and modular reasoning of both object-oriented and crosscutting code.
