Expense tracking utility which allows user to enter expenses with comments and place them into user defined categories. When done you can generate a report grouping tax deductible expenses by category showing details and total. This is meant as an aid to tax preparation. The author has been using some version of this every tax filing season.
PostgreSQL is chosen for the database due to its robustness and the availability of free tools to backup/maintain PostgreSQL databases
