Hello!
I changed the boot scripts linuxrc and software in /etc/initrd.
linuxrc now prints out some memory statistics. software just got
cleaned up, but those cleanups are needed because of the changes to
build-iso. Build-iso got cleaned up and now creates a packages.lst
file with the estimated size of the decompressed packages.
Attention:
After a "cvs update -d -P" and "make mrproper iso" do not forget
to update your floppy if you are testing 0.5rc1.
What's to come:
* estimating the optimal size of the shmfs
* warning if installing an optional package would not fit
into the ramdisk
* splitting up build-iso into severall files

MfG / Regards

-------- Original Message -------- Subject: ANNOUNCE: mdadm 1.0.0 - A tool for managing Soft RAID under Linux Date: Fri, 10 May 2002 14:17:12 +1000 (EST) From: Neil Brown <ne...@cs...> To: lin...@vg..., lin...@vg... I am pleased to announce the availability of mdadm version 1.0.0 It is available at http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~neilb/source/mdadm/ as both a source tar-ball, as an SRPM, and as an RPM for i386. mdadm is a tool for creating, managing and monitoring device arrays using the "md" driver in Linux, also known as Software RAID arrays. mdadm incorporates much of the functionality of raidtools, though with a very different interface, and also provides extra functionality including: - monitoring array and alerting admin staff of issues - moving spares between arrays as needed - assembling arrays based on superblock content - displaying details of arrays and of superblocks The release of version 1 is intended to suggest that mdadm is - feature-complete - reasonably bug-free - reasonably well documented. I hope not to make another release until md driver enhancements necessitate it, but we will have to wait and see.... Note: mdadm was previously known as 'mdctl'. It is the same tool, just a different name. Development of mdadm is sponsored by CSE@UNSW: The School of Computer Science and Engineering at The University of New South Wales NeilBrown 10may2002 - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe linux-raid" in the body of a message to maj...@vg... This email is to inform you of release '8.3.2-T1B' of 'bind' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/bind/ The changes in this release are as follows: This is a beta test release of BIND 8.3.2, which is the third release of 8.3. It features improved IPv6 support for dig, nslookup, host, and nsupdate, and a critical bugfix to prevent DNS storms (affected BIND 8.3.0). Project description: The Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND) implements an Internet name server for Unix operating systems. The BIND consists of a server (or `daemon') called `named' and a resolver library. A name server is a network service that enables clients to name resources or objects and share this information with other objects in the network. This email is to inform you of release '3.4' of 'rp-pppoe' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/rp-pppoe/ The changes in this release are as follows: The kernel-mode plugin is now built against the latest CVS ppp source. pppoe now logs the PPPoE session number when a session terminates. MSS-Clamping now works with compressed protocol fields, and pppoe ignores SIGINT/SIGHUP so that LCP termination can proceed normally if pppd is killed. Major internal code cleanups were made. Project description: rp-pppoe is a PPPoE client and server suite for Linux, NetBSD, Solaris, and Mac OS X Beta. It is fully RFC-compliant and supports cookies, relay-IDs, and multiple simultaneous PPPoE discovery phases. It is cleanly coded and fairly efficient, and supports kernel-mode PPPoE on Linux 2.4.x. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/net-snmp/ The changes in this release are as follows: Minor fixes, including one for the Perl module. Project description: The NET-SNMP (formerly UCD-SNMP) package contains various tools relating to the Simple Network Management Protocol including an extensible agent, an SNMP library, tools to request or set information from SNMP agents, tools to generate and handle SNMP traps, a version of the unix 'netstat' command using SNMP and a Tk/perl mib browser. It was originally based on the Carnegie Mellon University SNMP implementation (version 2.1.2.1), but has been greatly enhanced, ported and fixed and barely resembles the original package anymore. John, I don't know why you talk about Devil-Linux on Trinux-talk. It has also been > a pure joy to work with. [...] > I have worked w/ lnx-bbc and it is very nice, Xwindows works very well. I > would very much like to burn Kloopix but the 600Mb download... I guess your are talking about Knoppix from http://www.knopper.net. I don't understand why we talk about this in Trinux mailing list. But I would just like to say the Knoppix is a great linux boot from CD. It is a bit like the French DemoLinux except that this is german (other language available). This might be the only problem [except for the download]. :-) I use it for development (gcc, ...) (to avoid installing Linux on my company laptop). I mostly use if for network security demonstration, because it contain: * Ethereal * Hping2 * nessus * nmap * ... Of course many tools are missing but I have a partition on the side where I compile them. > John, Linux Society Prez > > (also speaking on behalf of Denny, founder) > > ===== > John van Vlaanderen > > ############################################# > # CXN, Inc.
