This email is to inform you of release '0.60.3' of 'BusyBox' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/busybox/ The changes in this release are as follows: This release adds many changes and updates. Project description: BusyBox combines tiny versions of many common UNIX utilities into a single small executable. It provides minimalist replacements for most of the utilities you usually find in GNU fileutils, shellutils, etc. The utilities in BusyBox generally have fewer options than their full-featured GNU cousins; however, the options that are included provide the expected functionality and behave very much like their GNU counterparts. BusyBox provides a fairly complete POSIX environment for any small or embedded system. If you would like to cancel subscription to releases of this project, login to freshmeat.net and choose 'home' from the personal menubar at the top of the page. You'll be presented with a list of projects you're subscribed to in the right column, which you may cancel by highlighting the project in question and clicking the 'delete' button. This email is to inform you of release '1.73-pre3' of 'Syslinux' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/syslinux/ The changes in this release are as follows: Major internal code restructuring continues. Project description: SYSLINUX is a boot loader for the Linux operating system which operates off of MS-DOS floppies. It is intended to simplify first-time installation of Linux, rescue disks, and other uses for boot floppies. A SYSLINUX floppy can be manipulated using standard MS-DOS (or any other OS that can access an MS-DOS filesystem) tools once it has been created, and requires only a ~ 8K DOS program or ~ 16K Linux program to create it in the first place. It also includes PXELINUX, a program to boot off a network server using a boot PROM compatible with the Intel PXE (Pre-Execution Environment) specification, ISOLINUX, a program to boot off ISO 9660 CD-ROMs in native mode, and MEMDISK, a tool to boot legacy operating systems (e.g. DOS) using a Linux boot loader regardless of medium. This email is to inform you of release '1.5.17' of 'syslog-ng' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/syslog-ng/ The changes in this release are as follows: This release includes bugfixes and minor new features. Project description: syslog-ng, as the name shows, is a syslogd replacement, but with new functionality for the new generation. The original syslogd allows messages only to be sorted based on priority/facility pairs; syslog-ng adds the possibility to filter based on message contents using regular expressions. The new configuration scheme is intuitive and powerful. Forwarding logs over TCP and remembering all forwarding hops makes it ideal for firewalled environments. The User-Build-System will be the key component for our adaptation. Since the
Linux Society seeks to develop a release that is both operational and
educational, we are very eager to get started.
At this point, I have about half-a-dozen developers wishing to start writing
boot scripts, especially hardware detection and disk/swap use.
I am personally interested developing a build system and deployment
documentation as part of our distributed paradigm.
The area of deployment we are interested in is the "single IP network" where a
single network connection supports a small enterprise. These would include
cafes, resturants, schools and other venues that seek to create an Internet
presence.
Apache 2 can support this for various web servers and port redirection systems
need to be developed for other services.
It is too bad that my "reverse engineering" attempt failed to produce a
bootable CD (the mount command had to be run twice to work), this would have
created a very simple user enhancement solution. I would still like to see why
this failed. Maybe corruption along the way...

This email is to inform you of release '5.0' of 'Net-SNMP' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/net-snmp/ The changes in this release are as follows: An entirely rewritten agent core, a new agent API, more Perl modules and functionality (including embedded Perl), new transports for messages (including IPv6), improved agentx support, a rewrite of mib2c, a restructuring of the source code, and much more. Project description: The NET-SNMP (formerly UCD-SNMP) package contains various tools relating to the Simple Network Management Protocol including an extensible agent, an SNMP library, tools to request or set information from SNMP agents, tools to generate and handle SNMP traps, a version of the unix 'netstat' command using SNMP and a Tk/perl mib browser. It was originally based on the Carnegie Mellon University SNMP implementation (version 2.1.2.1), but has been greatly enhanced, ported and fixed and barely resembles the original package anymore.
