I think I found the problem.
It is within "functions".
The changes I made to the get_libs function did not work.

Sorry for that.

Currently I compile the system, I keep you guys up-to-date about the status.

The problem is within the CVS files, this means in the scripts.
I checkout out the version from 11/25/2001 and it worked.
I'll try to figure out where the problem is.

The make mrproper and setting CONFIG_BLK_DEV_LOOP=y didn't help, same error
<sigh>. Oh well, I'm out of blanks, will run to the store in the AM and get
some more, hopefully will be able to figure out what's wrong by then!

Same error as before here, I'm going to try my latest build now and see if
that works

I've just updated my sources from ftp.de.devil-linux.org, except the
kernel 2.4.16 (no pre!), which I got from a local mirror instead.

We'll see if the compilation finishes without an error this time.

I'm going to try again with my sources from Heiko (still can't get CVS to
work), and see if a mrproper helps or not. I did notice that the kernel
.config file (2.4.16-pre1) does not have CONFIG_BLK_DEV_LOOP set, so I've
set it to 'y' to see if that helps as well. BTW, for the record, the real
name is Dean :)

Now in the LFS-System:
root:/build# make mrproper unpack build install iso &> logfile&

But that will take it's time. I'll burn a CD-RW tomorrow when
it's finished and try to boot it.

Just to make sure, that the problem is not on my system.

Did you move linuxrc to /bin/init or is /bin/init a link to /linuxrc?

What bothers me is the message
  VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem).
  FAT: bogus logical sector size 0
  FAT: bogus logical sector size 0

Why on earth is the kernel telling that root is ext2 and then
complains about FAT? Something not compiled into the kernel that
should?

Thought it firs to and tried it.
This only effects which program is loaded as init process after the initrd.

I think it is inside initrd. The kernel says that he found a valid boot image at block 0 (initrd) and shortly after this he crashes.
At the moment I think he is not starting the script.

yesterday I started to work again on DL, but the system is not booting.
Did somebody change something important without testing?

Mister D (whatever the real name is) reported the same problem.

Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 01:01

Could be something with initrd, loop-device (build system).
I'm not sure if I have time to fix it, before I go my bussiness trip (sunday).
