MacVocTrain is a index card based training program for vocabulary. Its on one hand inspired by the program ProVoc (http://www.arizona-software.ch/provoc/) which the author used for learning but which is unfortunately retired. Unlike ProVoc the program uses a very effective learning methode described Sebastian Leitner in his book "How to Learn to Learn" from 1973, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leitner_system .
