LEGO EV3 Utilities and Assembler
EV3Utils are Communication and Assembler utilities written in JAVA for working with the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 from Linux. A command line interface is provided which can be used to up- or download projects as well as assemble new bytecode files. Communication with the brick is currently limited to USB-only, but other transports should be easy to add. The assembler supports all of the functionality of the one provided by LEGO, but uses a slightly different syntax and supports far more error checking. Not endorsed by LEGO, and they probably don't even know it exists. -

Feel free to contact me about getting design files, code, a little help, etc. It demonstrates proportional, integral, and derivative controllers and their features as well as anti-windup and control loop update rate. It uses a DC motor controlled by an h-bridge and an optical quadrature encoder for feedback. It uses timers, counters, and interrupts to generate PWM to control the speed of the motor, encoder pulse counting, and control loop updates. -

...Some of the features included are internet protocols TCP and UDP, serial port, joystick/gamepad, keyboard, camera, etc. Initially intended to be used in electronics projects where serial communication is common but extended to do common tasks like web browsing, music listening, application opening with custom keyboard shortcuts or text commands. The program is still at alpha stage so updated frequently with various bug fixes and interface changes. It is recommended to keep the program up to date.
